PUERTO MORELOS
Puerto Morelos, considered the entrance to the beautiful Riviera Maya, boasts not only of several interesting eco-tourist spots but also the chance to experience a complete getaway from a fast paced life. The Reefs of Puerto Morelos, a natural marine park, provides easy access to a fascinating underwater world abound with tropical fish, sea creatures and beautiful corals. There is also the Jardin Botanico del Dr. Alfredo Barrera, located a few minutes south of Puerto Morelos, which is home to striking flora and fauna visible in their natural setting.
PLAYA DEL CARMEN
Playa del Carmen, more fondly known as just Playa, is located in the heart of the Mayan Riviera which makes it the epitome of what one would imagine a Caribbean vacation to be like. Its main beach is arguably one of the most beautiful in the world and features a variety of water activities, from just plainly swimming on the beach to windsurfing, snorkeling and diving, and even fishing. Alongside this, there is La Quinta Avenida or Fifth Avenue where you will find a myriad of little boutiques, restaurants and bars. It is a great place to enjoy the nightlife with other travelers as well as with the locals.
AKUMAL AND XEL-HÁ
Akumal means “Place of the Turtles” in the Mayan Language and sea turtles can be found laying eggs by the beaches or swimming around the bay. Besides that, Akumal is a haven for divers and snorkelers with its beautiful underwater life forms. Just to the south of Akumal, you will find Xel-Há, which is popularized as the world’s most beautiful natural aquarium where fresh water and seawater meet. You can choose to go on the Xel-Há River Float where you ride a tube down through the river, through mangrove forests and is a chance to appreciate the majestic scenery. One could also enjoy swimming with the dolphins in the Xel-Há Interactive Dolphin Swim attraction.
TULUM AND SIAN KA’AN
Tulum is where history meets your vacation. Here, you can explore the Tulum Ruins and imagine the lives of the ancient civilization that populated this zone. A perfect place for a traveler who would still want to enjoy being by the sea, there is a small beach by the ruins where one could take a swim while basking in the architecture and the serenity of this area. Moving further south of Tulum is Sian Ka’an, declared as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
